I used to be one of those travelers who had a camera hanging from the shoulder everywhere I went. That was in the ancient days when I could just apply for a week or two of vacation, get in the car (or plane) and head out. Often I wrapped these expeditions around “official” travel (such as professional conferences) by taking a week or two after to get in a rental car and explore my way to the city of my return flight.
There were some memorable trips which involved a number of planes, buses, trains and ferries, sometimes leaving me somewhere with only a backpack, suitcase, camera bag and a vague notion of where I might end up sleeping that night.
I noted that one does not acquire the mark of “tourist” so readily when you have an camera bag and 35mm SLR hanging on your shoulder. Then you can cast vibes of a travelling photographer than a mere tourist.
These days it’s various digital cameras (I still have my film equipment and should I become semi-wealthy to afford film in the quantities I would end up using, would happily pull them out of storage). And yes this means I mostly use my smartphone as my camera – like everybody else does.
So here is a sample of what I call interesting pictures from various places I have visited.
