This little guy was sort of a “challenge build”. Two days ago one of my colleagues was clearing out unneeded junk, and that included two non-functional desk lamps.
Another colleague with whom I have discussed this artistic undertaking of mine informed me that they were in fact intended for the trash bin. His comment was “Maybe you can make them into something for our office.”
Since I had already planned to divert them from the trash heap, I snapped them up and a few minutes later decided that I could do just that.
This is “Oscar The Oracle” – named as such because the discarded lamps came from the office of our database team, and one of the database products they manage is, well Oracle.
Oscar is made almost entirely of those two desk lamps, which happened to have the same size and shape of head fixtures, which became the feet, and it all went from there.
This was a fast build – all hands on deck, all other priorities suspended, probably around six hours total (inspiration takes its time). BTW, this is what my workbench typically looks like during a build – it’s not a pretty sight.
Oscar was well received by it’s intended audience, who was amazed at what I was able to do with two deceased desk lamps. And this guy is an Oracle Data Base Administrator, which I consider just short of dark magic.
And here’s Oscar’s glamour shot.
